The Best Locations for Your Paris Photoshoot (And Style Tips for Each)

Paris is one of the most visually rich cities in the world, and choosing the right location for your photoshoot can completely shape the mood and style of your images. From iconic landmarks to quiet neighbourhood streets, each area of Paris offers a very different atmosphere — and knowing what to wear for each location makes all the difference.

As an English-speaking Paris-based photographer, I help couples and families choose locations that feel natural, elegant, and timeless — and I always guide them on styling so everything works beautifully together. Below is a curated guide to some of the best Paris photoshoot locations, along with simple outfit tips for each.

The Seine & Île Saint-Louis — Timeless Paris

Walking along the Seine or through Île Saint-Louis offers a classic Paris feel without feeling touristy. Stone bridges, river reflections, and historic streets create a timeless backdrop.

Best for:
Couples, families, and relaxed engagement sessions.

Style tips:

  • Light layers work well for walking shots

  • Soft blues, creams, and earthy tones complement the river setting

  • Coordinated outfits (rather than matching) photograph beautifully

  • Scarves and coats add texture and elegance

This is a wonderful option if you want variety in your images without moving too far between locations.

Luxembourg Gardens — Soft, Romantic & Green

The Luxembourg Gardens offer a different side of Paris: elegant fountains, tree-lined paths, and a calm, romantic atmosphere. It’s especially beautiful in spring and early autumn.

Best for:
Families, couples, and elopement portraits.

Examples:

Style tips:

  • Soft, natural colours photograph beautifully against greenery

  • Light dresses, linen, and relaxed tailoring work well

  • Avoid very dark colours — they can feel heavy here

  • Comfortable footwear is important for walking paths

This location works particularly well for families and couples who want a gentle, romantic feel.

The Louvre & Palais Royal — Elegant & Architectural

The Louvre courtyard and Palais Royal gardens offer symmetry, clean lines, and a sense of quiet grandeur. These locations feel refined and editorial, especially in early morning light.

Best for:
Couples, engagements, fashion-inspired portraits, and sophisticated sessions.

This area is perfect if you’re drawn to a more polished, high-end Paris look.

Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III is one of Paris’s most ornate and photogenic bridges. With gilded statues, sweeping views of the Seine, and landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides nearby, it feels cinematic and grand without being overwhelming.

Best for:
Couples, engagements, elopements, luxury-inspired sessions

  • Soft neutrals, jewel tones, or classic black photograph beautifully

  • Statement accessories work well here without overpowering the scene

This bridge is particularly stunning at sunrise or early evening when the light wraps around the architecture.

Eiffel Tower Area — Classic & Iconic Paris

Few places are as instantly recognisable as the Eiffel Tower. The surrounding streets, gardens, and viewpoints offer a timeless Parisian backdrop, especially early in the morning when the light is soft and the crowds are minimal.

Best for:
Couples, engagements, elopements, and first-time visitors to Paris.

Examples:

Style tips:

  • Choose neutral tones like beige, cream, soft grey, or navy

  • Avoid loud patterns or logos

  • Elegant layers (coats, scarves, tailored jackets) photograph beautifully

  • Flowing dresses work especially well here, adding movement and softness

This area suits a refined, classic look that will never feel dated.

Montmartre (Sacré-Cœur & surrounding streets)

Montmartre is one of the most iconic areas in Paris, but also one of the busiest. The main square and steps at Sacré-Cœur Basilica can become extremely crowded by mid-morning, so timing here makes all the difference.

For the cleanest experience, this location only really works for early morning shoots at sunrise. Arriving before the tourists and tour groups completely changes the atmosphere — the streets are quiet, the steps are empty, and you can actually move through the area without constantly working around people.

The light at this time is also at its best. Sunrise gives a soft, warm glow across the white stone of Sacré-Cœur and the rooftops of Paris, which works beautifully for both wide establishing frames and more intimate portraits along the steps.

Best for:
Couples and engagement sessions, fashion/editorial-style portraits, and relaxed family shoots. It also works well for clients who want a more “cinematic Paris” feel, but only if shot at sunrise before the crowds arrive.

Examples:

Quiet side street in Montmartre with warm sunrise light and classic Parisian architecture
Sacré-Cœur Basilica glowing in soft golden morning light through the trees of the surrounding gardens

Style tips:

  • Simple and neutral tones work best (creams, blacks, soft earth tones). Busy patterns tend to fight against both the textures of the streets and the visual noise that builds later in the morning.

  • Avoid anything too formal or stiff — Montmartre works best when the session feels effortless and unposed.

Parisian Streets & Cafés — Effortless & Natural

Sometimes the most beautiful Paris photos happen in quiet streets or near cafés, away from famous landmarks. These locations feel intimate and personal — like a snapshot of real life in Paris.

Best for:
Couples, families, and lifestyle-focused sessions.

Style tips:

  • Think “effortless Parisian” rather than overly styled

  • Neutral colours with one soft accent work well

  • Avoid anything too formal

  • Layers and textures help create depth in photos

These sessions feel authentic and relaxed, perfect for couples who want their photos to feel natural and unforced.
